In 1997 the Ayrshire Amateur Football Association introduced a Premier Division made up fron the top six sides in North Ayrshire along with the top six sides from South Ayrshire. The first winners of the Ayrshire Amateur League - Premier Division (1997-98) were Newmilns Vesuvious, who also managed to win the Evening Times WEST OF SCOTLAND AMATEUR CUP that season. Newmilns (current champions 2004-05) are the joint top winners of this competition (with 3 titlles) along with "three-in-a-row" winners Knockentiber Ams.

There are a further four divisions in Ayrshire Amateur football - two in the North and two in the South.

The winners of North Division One and South Division One are automatically promoted and replace the bottom two teams in the Premier Division. The runners up in North Division One and South Division One have a play-off to decide which team then has a play-off against the third bottom team in the Premier Division. The winners of this second play-off match take their place in the Premier Division the following season.

The Donsport Trophy is a consolation cup for teams knocked out in the first two rounds of the British Energy Ayrshire Amateur Cup.

The James Scott Memorial NAC Trophy is competed for by teams in the North of Ayrshire while the Walker & Templeton Trophy is for the South Ayrshire clubs.

There is also the Eric W. White Memorial Trophy which is played for by the winners of the previous season's Ayrshire Amateur Cup and the Premier League. This match is played in memory of Eric White who had a 27 year association with the Ayrshire Amateur FA holding down various posts over the years. He was also associated with the Scottish AFA. He was made a life member of the Ayrshire AFA in 1980. He died on September 8th 1993 aged 74. The match was originally played between the Ayrshire AFA and the Scotland Amateur side. The current holders are Hurlford Thistle, beating Craigie Ams 4-2 at Dam Park Stadium, Ayr on the 27th September 2004.
