LARGS THISTLE FOOTBALL CLUB

The Club were originally formed in 1889 and then re-formed in 1920. They play their home games at Barrfields Stadium, Brisbane Road, Largs. They  have played at this ground since 1927. Originally this was meant to be only a temporary measure till a new proper ground was found - but over 80 years later and we're still here.

Important Note
This is the first time I have updated this website in 3½ years. I probably won't be updating much as the official website has the up to date details. I do intend starting a website (in 2009-10) which will have all the results each week from the West region with scorers for each match. This is brought about because Pyramid News Weekly is to cease fortnightly publication at the end of season 2008-09.

Oh yeah - I knew there was a reason for me updating this website after such a long absence -

Largs Thistle have won the West of Scotland Super League First Division

(2008-09 in case it is another 3½ year before the next update) and so will be competing in the top league in Junior Football for the first time ever. As it has been such a long time I'm not sure which pages will work in Internet Explorer and which pages will work in Firefox. I will keep this website going because there is a lot of historical material not available on the official website but for the current season stuff then the official website is the place to go. It also has the match details for the past few seasons.

SEASON 2009-10

The first round of the West of Scotland Cup was drawn at the West Region AGM on Wednesday 24th June 2009. Largs Thistle have been drawn at home to Dunipace Juniors - the date for this match has still to be arranged. Dunipace Juniors results in the West of Scotland Cup can be found in a link in the left hand frame. We last met them in this competition in 1987-88 when we beat them 2-0 at Barrfields.

The opening fixtures for the season were issued to clubs at the West Region AGM and we start our season at home to Kilbirnie Ladeside in the Ardagh Glass League Cup - Section One. (Wednesday 29th July 2009). Ross Haswell will be the referee for that match.

So we're in with the big boys next season - who will we be facing? Well, from North Ayrshire we will have along with ourselves - Beith Juniors, Irvine Meadow and Kilbirnie Ladeside. South Ayrshire will just be represented by Auchinleck Talbot as Cumnock Juniors and Glenafton Athletic were relegated (in the Glens case - for the first time in their history). Auchinleck are the now only Ayrshire club never to have been relegated and have played in the top Division every season possible (from 1976). The former Central Region will provide the following clubs in the Premier Division - Arthurlie, Bellshill Athletic, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Lanark United, Petershill, Pollok and Vale of Clyde.
