The West of Scotland Super League came about after years of arguing between the Ayrshire Region and Central Region of the SJFA about just how many clubs from each Region should make up the new set-up. Ayrshire originally wanted a Premier Division of 10 clubs with 5 from each Region. They also wanted the remaining clubs in both Regions to form integrated Leagues of both Regions. Central disagreed and wanted more clubs from the Central Region in the Premier League and also didn't want any further integration of the two Regions. So the compromise is the Premier Division started off with six clubs from each Region. The First Division had eight clubs from the Central Region and four from the Ayrshire Region.

Pollok were the first winners of the West of Scotland Super League Premier Division. They won their opening game 5-1 against Cumnock Juniors at Newlandsfield Park on the 31st August 2002 to go top of the league - a position they never dropped down from. Arthurlie were winners of the First Division. Troon, despite having three points deducted were runners up and were also promoted. Benburb and Irvine Meadow X1 were relegated from the Premier Division so an Ayrshire side and a Central side  replaced and Ayrshire side and a Central side. The clubs relegated from the First Division were also from both the Ayrshire Region and Central Region - Largs Thistle and Cambuslang Rangers. So fears that their could be an imbalance if both clubs relegated came from the one Region didn't come about.

Team of the month awards 2002-2003        2003-2004

At the end of season 2003-2004 two clubs will be promoted from the Ayrshire District League and two from the Central District League but only two clubs will be relegated thus bringing the Super League First Division up to 14 clubs.

Caledonian Paper Mills (in Irvine) have sponsored the Premier Division for the first two seasons with Rockware Glass (also in Irvine) being the sponsor of the First Dividion (as well as sponsoring the Ayrshire District League).

I have included the results in the Scottish Junior Cup since 1968 for the Ayrshire clubs in the Super League as I already had them prepared. When I get the time I'll include the Central clubs results as well.

If there is anything you disagree with in the above or there is anything you wish to add then send me an e-mail.
